The main problem people face when confronted with the challenge to lose weight is twofold; it is how to lose weight and keep it off. We need to be as diligent in trying to keep the weight off as we are in trying to lose it otherwise we will continue to find ourselves in an endless cycle of losing weight and putting it back on. This is one of the main reasons why many struggle with their weight and why weight loss has become such a major issue. Keeping the weight off takes as much discipline as trying to lose it in the first place, if this is not understood then we set ourselves up for a lifetime of frustration and defeat and this could cause one to eventually give up and follow the path of obesity; a path which requires no discipline at all. Having said that I would like to offer a few guidelines on how to lose weight and keep it off.
1) Combine exercise with your diet plan. Don’t rely solely on dieting or exercise to achieve your weight loss goals but view them both as two powerful tools for your success. Exercise must be regular, at least three times a week in order to reap the benefit. Learn to love exercise it is good for the body and the mind. If you don’t like the vigorous type of exercises such as jogging, cycling or aerobics begin a daily walk for 20-30 minutes. Walking not only helps to keep you in trim but it has a beneficial effect on your mind and it’s a good way to begin and end your day.

As part of your diet plan you should incorporate lots of fruit of various colours as each colour has a different antioxidant which is said to be good for preventing various types of disease. We want to keep healthy as well as lose weight don’t we? Water also should be included in your diet as it is the best natural appetite suppressant. Drinking a full glass of water before each meal will allow you to consume less and it will help you to lose weight. The benefits of drinking water are too numerous to mention!
Once you have completed your diet and reached your desired weight eating lots of fruit, vegetables and drinking water will greatly help you to keep you weight down even if you decide to indulge on your favourite chocolate bar once in a blue moon!
So keep a proper balance between your diet and exercise, they both work together to accomplish your goals.
2) Change your lifestyle. Don’t be a couch potato. How many hours do you spend watching TV each week? If you total this up you will find that this is equivalent to how many hours you sit on your sofa doing nothing! Even if you managed to achieve your weight loss goal this alone will cause you to put weight back on within a few days. Inactivity and bad eating are two great enemies of health and weight loss!
Please consider changing your lifestyle. This is easier said than done but you must do it if you want to lose weight and keep it off. If you don’t want to go out and take a walk do some jogging on the spot, try some press ups or sit ups, you can even do this in front of the TV. I’m sure you’ve got the message. It is said that bad habits are hard to break and good ones are hard to make but it is necessary and you will always feel better after a workout. Don’t wait to start tomorrow, begin a small change today because every little bit counts. You will find that a small change each day amounts to you changing your whole life eventually. You will thank yourself that you decided to take the initiative to make these small changes in your lifestyle. Good luck.
